Very happy to share this latest remix with you all (and make it available for FREE). This is a collaboration I did with my homie and DJ partner Canyon Cody (Subsuelo mastermind) for local LA cumbia superheroes Buyepongo. These guys have been keeping the heavy roots alive and well around Southern California for a minute, and I’m hoping this is the first of more collaborations to come. We took their classic cumbia tribute to the masters and brought it to the club. Fans of 808’s and moombahton should find plenty to like about this one.

Merengue-meets-trap craziness cooked up by me and my homie Canyon Cody (Subsuelo mastermind and Planet Rock cohort). Canyon also works at Nacional records and helps organize the LAMC in NYC, which is where he met the current owner of the legendary Fania Records. It is thanks to him that I had the honor of getting access to some original multi-track tapes from this late-70’s session with La Reina Celia Cruz and the gangster trombonist extraordinaire Willie Colon. While this wouldn’t have been my first choice of songs to remix from their massive catalogue, it did lend itself quite nicely for a half-time heavy-bottom flip up, which is something that Canyon & I like to play a lot of at our weekly Saturday night get down. Press play and be ready for a quick dose of sonic adrenaline. Also, big shout out to SPIN.com for premiering it yesterday!
Hard to believe it’s been a full year of rocking Saturday nights with my DJ partner in crime Canyon Cody. Our lil baby Planet Rock has grown to be one of the most raucous and consistently bumping parties on the East side of LA (or the whole city for that matter). We may have a reputation as a destination for twerkers, but there’s plenty of music snobs and old school heads in the crowd as well. We always work to keep the mixes creative, while remaining devoted to the art of moving butts. If you’re in the LA area and have been snoozing, WAKE UP and come through already! If you’re a regular, then you know what I’m talking about. For those of you too far away to join us this weekend, we put together this mixtape (featuring the 3 recent Chuck Wild remixes I posted here) to give you an idea of what we sound like live (the mix was actually recorded live to keep that authentic touch). Press play and jumpstart your weekend early!
