Yeasayer ONE Remix

These dudes make really good music, I saw the opportunity to remix one of their best songs over at MadDecent.com, I jumped on it (albeit a little late in the game). The official site where you can vote for your favorite remix is annoyingly glitchy, but if you like my mix  then please take a minute to a least try and vote for me. But really, all competition aside, I was just happy to play around with their audio files and see all the different layers of their music broken down. My take is focussed on the dancefloor- funky,  dubby, electro-disco to your dome. I’m staying really active right now, so more remixes coming soon…

Just Beats

DJ Center (Left) and Mophono (Right)

Here’s a couple new joints from DJ/producers who I’ve been following for a minute now. Mophono is the alias of Bay Area DJ Centipede. I remember hearing some of his remixes on Soul-Sides a while ago, but this new EP he’s just put out on Bastard Jazz is a big step forward. The beat sounds like a drunken boxing match between baritone sax and drumkit. “Bumps” is right, this track will leave a weak listener bruised. Next up is a smooth bossa-hop number from NYC’s own DJ Center. It comes from his very solid debut album called “Everything In Time” (peep a nice little ‘making of’ video here and then BUY IT). I’m trying to work out a remix of this one, so stay tuned. Finally, just got my hands on one of my favorite Outkast instrumentals, one of my all-time favorite instrumentals period, and figured why not share it? Organized Noize circa ’98 = unfuckwitable (**EDIT, this track was actually NOT produced by Organized Noize! Peep the comments). Also, for a little extra Mophono flavor, check out this free mix that the man put together to help promote the new EP- highly recommended!

DJ Center :       Center's Groove

Outkast :       Spottieottiedopaliscious (Instrumental)

A Little African Warmth…

For a gray rainy day. I was very happy to get this latest Akwaaba Music release last week from Skeat (pronounced Skea-tee) out of Botswana. I’ve seen The Very Best perform a few times already (including down in Austin at SXSW), but for some reason I hadn’t given their album a proper listen until just recently. This track is a standout for me- as is the remix from DJ Sabo, but you’ll have to dig that one up yourself! Sounds from Soweto coming soon…

Skeat :       Dumelang
taken from the album Basimanyana Mamela Meropa available on iTunes

The Very Best :       Nsokoto
taken from the album Warm Heart of Africa

Thank you for your sharing. I am worried that I lack creative ideas. It is your article that makes me full of hope. Thank you. But, I have a question, can you help me?

I’m In Love With A Badass

[vimeo width=”450″ height=”360″]http://vimeo.com/11219730[/vimeo]

In case there was ever a fleeting moment of doubt about who holds the crown, M.I.A. is back with a very badass reminder. Directed by the same evil genius responsible for Justice’s “Stress” video. Damn.

Your article gave me a lot of inspiration, I hope you can explain your point of view in more detail, because I have some doubts, thank you.

Can you be more specific about the content of your article? After reading it, I still have some doubts. Hope you can help me.

Hypnotic

A tiny bit lewd perhaps (the gems were a bit much for me), but also really nicely done, with simple and stylish animation by Mrzyk & Moriceau.

Nas Likes MTR & We Like Nas

It looks like Nas might be reading this blog. Way back when it was still called “Captain’s Crate” I posted this bootleg 12″ remix of a Mulatu Astatke song called “Yegelle Tezeta”. I was playing that remix out a lot- perfect slow builder which delivers with a HUGE drum break after 4 1/2 minutes. Next up, young Murphy posts the brand new Gil Scott-Heron single as soon as it’s dropped and gives it proper shine. Then what should happen? Nas & Damian Marley team up (someone in heaven was listening to people’s prayers) and drop the first single from their new album Distant Relatives. What’s this? A rework of that same Mulatu record. Genius. But am I really to believe that it’s merely coincidence that then he hops on the new Gil single too? Just by chance? Maybe, but maaaaaybe not. If you’re Nas and you’re reading this, give a shout in the comments! And for the rest of you, enjoy this remix I cranked out yesterday, adding drums and a little dirty synth to make this epic collabo track a little more playable when DJ-ing.

Last note: I’m throwing this big party with my boy DJ Enrock tomorrow (Fri) night in downtown BK, come through! Details here

Damian Marley & Nas :       As We Enter

I don’t think the title of your article matches the content lol. Just kidding, mainly because I had some doubts after reading the article.
