Once again, I’m locked up in the house, quickly losing my sanity. This time unfortunately it’s one of my daughters who has the ‘Rona. Thankfully the fever was pretty mild, but the total disruption of life is near total. And with all of us cooped up, no school or outside help, the walls of our small abode are quickly shrinking. While I barely have enough mental space to compose an email right now, I did feel it was a priority to put together a life-saving playlist of surefire soul shakers. I have a couple decent party lights here, and turning my living room into a night club is one of the best forms of escape we’ve got. Cheers to any of you out there going through something similar, we’re in this together, keep focussed on better days ahead. And to all you lucky bastards who are avoiding the worst, screwwwwww youuuuuuu (just kidding, ENJOY YOUR FREEDOM). Cool art above from don dada David Byrne (needs no intro). Press play and turn up!
Posting this late, but better than never! In case you missed the latest episode… From the depths of isolated Covid quarantine, Charlie Wilder (aka Captain Planet) returns with an hour of soulful sounds to help soothe the spirit and get your body in motion. Eclectic as always, this sonic journey zig zags across continents and through decades, with some favorite new releases from 2021 as well as some older material that was newly re-discovered. Buckle up and prepare for blast off, with your eyes steady focused on better days ahead.

Man o man, I’ve been collecting so much premium product, it would be a crime to keep it all to myself. I proudly present to you all, a big batch of seriously hard to find hip-propulsing mind melters, from places near and far, with enough dust and grit to make a mop bucket jealous. Several are recorded from my own LP’s. Enjoy this bounty, share with friends, play em loud, and may the funk be with you.
Consider this post your official invitation to one of the baddest disco parties that never was, roughly 40 years after it didn’t happen. We can dream though! And let me tell you, discovering each one of these choice vintage nuggets felt like I was finding a special place that was specifically designed for me to get down. So hopefully you’ll have a similar reaction. All played together back to back, this is one seriously soulful funk throwdown. You have been warned! Also props to the one Alex Voinea for providing visual stimulation today, he’s got plenty more where that came from.
I’m closing out the dog days of Summer with a wild mix of soulful sounds, old and new, from around the world. Making stops in Peru, Puerto Rico, UK, Colombia and a brief sojourn in South Africa among other locales, this trip will keep you on your toes with Mixtape Riot’s eclectic musical blend. Free your mind and let your ass follow.

Well, well, well, look who’s back. I can’t help myself. I wake up at night with playlists in my head. For now at least, I’ll keep sneaking in some tunes when the inspiration strikes and time allows. Artwork above by Frederick Okai Tetteh. Enjoy the bounty my friends.
